The 2nd Annual President's Cup Golf Tournament

The 2nd Annual President's Cup Golf Tournament was held on September 25, 2006, at the Butte Creek Country Club in Chico, California. More than 100 players participated in the four-person scramble event, luncheon, and many other rewarding activities throughout the day.

The winning team, pictured above with Butte College President Diana Van Der Ploeg, consisted of (from left) Zaher Muhad, Eric Zehnder, Ron Coleman, and Michael O'Donnell. Their averaged score was 54. The U.S. Screen Printing team (Scott Kangerga, Charlie Alvis, Darren Silva, and Bob Randolph) took second place with a score of 58. Last year's tournament winners (Dave Chinchen, Don Camy, Kevin Harvey, and Dave Hilts) shot a 28 on the back nine holes to win third place in a "card-off" with another team, with both teams scoring a 59. Each player on the winning teams got a commemorative plaque and other gifts, and the winning foursome will have their names engraved on the President's Cup trophy.
But the top teams weren't the only players to score big. Contests run by volunteers were set up throughout the course and offered participants many chances to try their luck. The Long Drive contest winners (Fran Babich and Matt Davis) each took home wine and gift baskets, as did the winners of the Closest to the Pin competition. Other players won gifts by drawing cards or spinning a prize wheel. Two raffles (one for prizes, one for cash) also yielded dozens of winners who took home such items as golf lessons, gift certificates, Butte College merchandise, and mini-vacations. In addition, every player received a bag of complimentary items, including a commemorative shirt, golf ball, and water bottle.
Selected holes on the course were also part of the Hole in One contest. While no player shot a hole in one, possible prizes included a set of golf clubs, a Dell computer, a Bose stereo, and $25,000 cash.

This event, hosted by the Butte College Foundation, was made possible through the help of many volunteers and more than 50 generous sponsors. Please take the time to check out our friends here.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success. We hope to see you next year!
